We usually say that, humans are evolved from monkeys. In the Nineteenth century, science touches the skies of inventions and researches. One of its researches was about the human evolution and human ancestor. Earlier to the century, scientists found many evidences which were many billion years before. After examining the evidences it was guess that monkeys or apes may be the ancestor of human beings. Further research works proved that human and apes shared a common ancestry.
The question arises was do we really evolved from monkeys? Many scientists didn’t support the statement and proved many theories which are with or not with the statement. There is big difference in the evolution of humans from apes and the human shared common ancestry with apes. Humans didn’t evolve from monkeys but the small facts and proofs make us believe that apes may be the human’s ancestor. We can’t say the fossil species are our direct ancestors but which are our more distant relatives. This because further we go back in time, our lineage spanning from roughly 40 to 20 million years ago is populated entirely by animals that we call monkey. Around 20 million years ago, many of those lineages of fossil monkeys kept evolving as “monkeys,” but the lineage that led to us shifted to a different branch on the evolutionary tree, which we have decided to call “apes.” Those fossil apes led to present-day ones including gorillas, chimpanzees, and us. Like all vertebrates with four-limbs, known as tetrapods, we evolved from the same ancient fishes. Humans are evolved from ancient apes same like modern-day apes and monkeys, we evolved from ancient monkeys. One of the earliest traits that shows walk of human on two legs was evolved 4 million years ago and other important characteristic of humans is the complex evolution of brain may be before 1lakhs years.
Humans are primates. Primate means the best species among all the animals. The modern human, Homo Sapiens has ancestor from Africa that are gorilla or chimpanzees. The first human was evolved from Africa continent. Paleoanthropology is the scientific study of the human evolution. This type of study helps archeological departments to understand how early humans made and use tools and live life in their environment. It is the exciting scientific field because it investigates the millions of years before, universal and defining traits of species. Sometimes people find human evolution term a trouble because it doesn’t fit in the religious and traditional beliefs of how people, the world came to be. Some people reconcile their meaning by knowing scientific evidences.
The important thing is why this
question arises now here. The reason behind is the statement given by HRD
minister Mr. Satyapal Singh. The minister of India’s Human Resource Development
states that, the Darwin’s theory should go out of school books as it is wrong.
He said that, no one had seen the transformation apes into human beings and
because of the strong evidence, it can’t stand a chance. What exactly the
Darwin’s theory about? The theory of human evolution by natural selection was
first formulated in the book “On origin of species” by Charles Darwin in the
year 1859. "All life on Earth is
connected and related to each other," and this diversity of life is a
product of "modifications of populations by natural selection, where some
traits were favored in and environment over others," by him. The
theory sometimes describes as a “survival of the fittest” but it is wrong way
of description. Here fitness does not mean the physical power or athletic
ability but it is the ability to survive and reproduce. defining traits of our species. The theory of
natural selection explains how this evolution has happened? It states that,
more organisms are produced than can survive because of limited resources.
Organism struggle for the necessities of life & there is competition for
resources. Individuals within a population vary in their traits; some of these
traits are heritable, some variants are better adapted to survive and reproduce
under local condition than others. The better adapted individuals are more
likely to survive and reproduce by passing their genes to the next generation.
In a simple words, the species whose individuals are best adapted, they survive
and others become extinct. Human evolution is
characterized by a number of morphological, developmental, physiological, and
behavioral changes that have taken place since the split between the last
common ancestor of humans and chimpanzees. The most significant of these
adaptations are
1. bipedalism 2. increased brain size 3. lengthened ontogeny (gestation
and infancy) 4. decreased sexual dimorphism.
As we look more in
the history, the scientific word humans is homo sapiens which came from its
ancestor homo habilus which is considered to be closest primates to humans.
Such comments by politicians or ministers are not new thing today but the
matter is that this kind of statements are given by HRD minister which has to
be looked for.
