Waste management issue in aurangabad

Waste management issue in aurangabad

While talking about the social problems of Aurangabad city, Garbage management stands first. From last 5 months, citizens facing this problem. The rootcause of the issue was  improper management of waste by Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The locals from Mitmita and Padegaon where AMC used to dump garbage kicked the protest against dumping site.
Earlier, all the garbage collected through the whole city was dumped there near Padegaon & on the way towards Mitmita. But there were no proper segregatiom of wet and dry garbage. Not even the management of medical waste. This improper management of medical waste killed lots of animals. Cows, dogs, goats, ect. were died because of harmful medical waste. These also adversely affected on the health of people in locality. As it resulted in the protests & dharnas.
The then District Magistrate Mr. Naval Kishoe Ram was unsuccesful to resolve the problem. Now, DM Nipun Vinayak is trying his best to inculcate it. This issue of Aurangabad was taken seriously by the Chief Minister of State Mr. Devendra Fadanvis. He had sanctioned bill it and also given time period to settle down the issue. Even this issue of city also filed in High Court and even in Supreme Court also. This was the only local and social that reached at SC.
As before 3 years, Aurangabad was in the list to became a smart city. But this issues like Garbage disposal, water crisis, potholes and mismanagement by AMC thrown city out from the list. The mayors turning one by one, commissioners are being inefficient to solve such problems.
Recently, the garbage disposal machines were installed in Chittegaon area. But result is yet to come. Even last week Lokmat had covered the story that these machines are not used by AMC. Then the question arises why Municipality wasting money if it is of no use.  AMC is doing efforts to solve the issue by organizing campaigns, competitions, awaremess drive. Last month, mayor of the city Nandakumar Ghodele announced the Cleanest ward contest. The main reason behind the contest was to clean city by competing between wards. Now in city, there are total 113 wards. Not a single ward is having space for dumping. Without arranging space, how could a ward be clean?
Some of the wards started creating their options by placing all the garbage at a desired place. Even one of the ward near Reliance Mall, dumped their waste in a shop. This kind of situation for the Capital of Marathwada is really shameful. Its all at the level of administration but at a ground level, people are not aware about the segregation of waste at their home. Waste management process starts from home only. People should segregate waste into wet garbage and dry one. Also should avoid use of plastics and should pack medical waste differently. So that the people working for  segregation could make it easily possible. The option of "Reduce, Reuse & Recyle" can be a preventive measure for the issue. It implies that one should reduce the use of 'use & throw' products. Reuse it for 2-3 times and then recyle it isntead of simply throwing it. So that the production level be mentained and this can a small step towards management of waste.
Plastic is the much harmful for environment. As we know, plastic bags or any thing made from it does not dispose till 1000 years. “Plastic” is a material which contains as an essential component a high polymer and which at some stage in its processing into finished products can be shaped by flow. In simple language, plastic is the hazardous substance in environment which is produced manually and known like polyester or polystyrene. It was founded in 1930s and also been used in World War 2. Most of the weapons used in the war included with plastics. To increase the production and grow business, plastic now included in almost all the stuffs. Today, in the fastest life of human beings prefers most of the “use & throw” things. These things are cheap in cost & to make their cost cheap they have use ingredients which are cheap and plastic is the cheapest to make such use & throw things. Altgough we all are very use to with it that we can not avoid it. Plastics we throw in the dustbins and further at waste dumping sites made lots of animals to die. They dont understant while eating that they are eating plastics, so that the plastic got stick their inner intestines and cause many health issues like cancer or ineffienciency in digestion. It not harshly affected on animals only but on the human beings also. It leads to skin camcer and overall creates imbalance in the nature. Everyone should avoid plastic. India is taking step towards plastic free environment but because of the scarcity of the clothing bags it is not properly implemented.  Recently, Netherland taken a step towards plastic free market. And it is the first country in the world to be plastic free aisle as a super market. Like Netherland, every country can take steps to free world from plastic.
Many efforts are taking place to brought resolution but situation is not changing. The one option on plastic used and disposal was came into light. Mens from Banglore whose names are Rasool and Ahemad Khan, invented new technique to build roads by using plastic as a stuff inside. These two brothers started thinking over it in 1996, when a ban was imposed on plastic bags in Karnataka, the question that the brothers who made a living by selling them in Bengaluru asked themselves was, ‘what next?’ Looking back, Rasool states, “Since we had 100 employees who were dependent on us, we had to look for an alternative. That’s when the idea of recycling plastic and mixing it with bitumen to lay roads struck us.” With this creative idea they build almost 1400km road in Banglore. Such kinds of different inventions are need for this hard time. Surely citizens of Aurangabad will find innovative way to deal with the waste disposable management will rise as a role model for Solide waste management.
